MCCALL CONCERT SINGERS

Calling ALL singers! The McCall Concert Singers are now practicing together for their Spring Concert and are always looking for more voices to join us.

Rehearsals: Will begin again in October 2023

If you love to sing, the McCall Concert Singers is the perfect place for you.  We are a friendly group and encourage anyone with interest in chorale singing to join us.  There are no auditions; we only ask that you are willing to commit your time and energy to practice on your own, attend rehearsals and performances.  Prospective members are invited to sing with us for several rehearsals to help make a personal decision about their musical ability in relation to the group.  We are always happy to have new voices.

We sing a wide variety of music including sacred, secular, classical, popular, and contemporary. The number of singers varies with each performance between about 25 and 40, though there are 90 members on our mailing list.  Our choir consists of people with diverse backgrounds and musical experiences drawing its membership from the surrounding communities of Cascade, Donnelly, McCall, New Meadows, Riggins, Council and Indian Valley.   What brings us together is our joy of making music and sharing it with others.

We typically rehearse fall – spring on Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Community Congregational Church, on the corner of First and Park streets in McCall.  We perform in concert twice a year, December (the Christmas Concert), and April (the Spring Concert).

Meet Blake Olmstead, Director

Blake Olmstead made his directorial debut with the McCall Concert Singers at the Spring 2018 concert. An enthusiastic and encouraging director, he taught choir in Mountain Home beginning with four years at the elementary level and 21 years at the Junior High and High Schools. His choirs at the high school included three Treble Choirs, a Men’s Choir, a Mixed Choir, and a Jazz/Madrigal Choir. He retired from the Mountain Home school system in 2011. He has been an adjunct professor at Boise State University, teaching Music Appreciation and Music for Educators for over 30 years.

Blake has also performed in several bands in Boise over the years and now performs as a solo musician in Mountain Home and McCall. A self-described Beatles fan with an extensive collection of Fab Four memorabilia, Olmstead acknowledges that music is a powerful force in people’s lives, whether or not they have ever been in a band or choir.

Blake enjoys directing choirs to perform a variety of songs from all periods of music, sacred and secular, gospel and ethnic, and modern popular songs.
